Ballot Measures
The Arizona Constitution provides voters with the ability to amend our Constitution, propose new laws, or change existing ones through the initiative process. The person or organization putting forward the initiative must file signatures with the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office at least four months before the next general election. If enough valid signatures are submitted, the proposed statutory (law) or constitutional amendment will be placed on the next general election ballot. A “yes” vote is a vote for enacting the new law or constitutional amendment and requires 50% +1 to pass. A “no” vote is a vote for retaining existing law.
Valid signatures from 15% of qualified electors (currently 383,923) are needed to place an initiative proposing a constitutional amendment on the ballot. Valid signatures from 10% of qualified electors (255,949) are required to place an initiative proposing a statutory measure on the ballot. Referendum Petitions require 127,975 valid signatures. For an initiative to appear on the November 6, 2024 General Election Ballot all Initiative petitions must be filed by July 3, 2024.
Listed below are the current initiative petitions being circulated throughout the State of Arizona. To read the full text of each initiative click on the link. The best way to defeat a bad initiative is to keep it off the ballot, to begin with.
